Vielleicht ein wenig kompliziert, aber dafür auf Nummer sicher
Unter diesem Titel könnte man unsere diesjährige Anreise nach Oregon zusammenfassen. Denn in den vergangenen Jahren hatten wir regelmässig «Lämpä» mit der Anreise.
2016 kam nur ein Teil des Gepäcks am Zielflughafen an, und eine Motorradreise ohne Motorradausrüstung ist wirklich doof.
2017 haben wir am Vorabend des geplanten Abflugs ein Hotel beim Flughafen genommen, um am frühen Morgen keine Probleme zu haben. Aber vergebens, denn wir haben den Anschlussflug in Frankfurt verpasst, weil wir aufgrund technischer Probleme Zürich erst mit vier Stunden Verspätung verlassen konnten.
2018 dachten wir, dass uns das nicht noch einmal passieren soll. Deshalb sind wir am Vorabend nach Frankfurt geflogen. Das ging dann besser, jedoch haben wir dann den Anschlussflug in Seattle verpasst, weil wir über zwei Stunden bei der lieben Immigration hängen geblieben sind.
2019 wollten wir also möglichst viele potenzielle Probleme umgehen und haben einen Direktflug von Zürich nach San Francisco gebucht, um dann selbstständig mit einem Mietwagen nach Portland zu fahren. Das ist zwar mit etwa 10 Stunden reine Fahrzeit ziemlich lange, aber im Vergleich zum Rumhängen in überfüllten Abflughallen und dem Eingepferchtsein wie Zuchtvieh doch viel angenehmer.
Jetzt sind wir also wohlbehalten und ohne Probleme in Tigard (in der Nähe von Portland) angekommen und verbringen die Zeit mit unseren beiden Freunden Madelyn und Scott ohne Hektik mit den üblichen Vorbereitungen und dem Packen der Motorräder.

Maybe a little complicated, but on the safe side.
This is the title of our trip to Oregon this year. Because in the past years we had regular "struggles" with the journey.
In 2016 only a part of the luggage arrived at the destination airport, and a motorcycle trip without motorcycle gear is really silly.
In 2017 we had a hotel at the airport on the eve of the planned departure to avoid any problems in the early morning. Due to technical problems in Zurich, we missed the connecting flight in Frankfurt.
In 2018 we thought that this shouldn't happen again. That's why we flew to Frankfurt the evening before. That went better then, but we missed the connecting flight in Seattle. We got stuck for more than two hours with the lovely immigration.
So in 2019 we wanted to avoid as many potential problems as possible and booked a direct flight from Zurich to San Francisco. Then we would drive to Portland on our own with a rental car. This is quite long with about 10 hours of driving time, but compared to hanging around in overcrowded departure halls and being crammed in like breeding cattle it is much more pleasant.
Now we have arrived safely and without problems in Tigard (near Portland) and spend the time with our two friends Madelyn and Scott without with the usual hectic preparations and packing the motorcycles.
